volcanic sunset

This is the flaming crescendo of a sunset which came in waves. It seemed like it was all unspectacularly over as the Sun vanished behind Mount Teide. illuminating a few clouds on the way past. I’d already given up and moved on as suddenly, a delicate yellow glow dominated the horizon. Good, but not spectacular. That too subsided, and it was twenty dull-skied minutes later that the clouds transformed for just ninety seconds into this astonishing volcanic fire. This time at least, patience paid off.
