This pastoral panorama shows the full Moon of June 4th 2012 attended by a brightly-coloured moon dog or paraselene—an atmospheric phenomenon caused by tiny ice crystals splitting moonlight up into a rainbow, much like a prism. The bright apparition was fleeting, and vanished in less than a minute. High cloud was accompanied by a thin mist over the field of barley in the foreground.
