Portfolio
I have designed a number of websites, three for businesses and the rest for myself. Web design is not just a job, but also a hobby!
Showcase
Barlow Nurseries
Barlow Nurseries (www.barlownurseries.co.uk) is a small, family-run horticultural nursery in Shropshire. It provides potential customers with plant lists, details of products and directions to the nursery, it is also easy to find online, topping the Google search for “barlow nurseries”.
Summers Driving School
Jane Summers, a driving instructor near Bristol, runs Summers Driving School. She wanted an online brochure for prospective clients. The pages give details of services offered, and provide a web-based e-mail form to allow learners to get in touch easily.
andrewsteele.co.uk
This website combines funky functionality, like the JavaScript-powered sliding comment areas, with carefully-planned backwards compatibility for browsers which don’t support it—an especially relevant issue at the moment with the rise of the mobile Internet, and the restrictions placed on websites viewed on tiny ’phone screens.
As well as (hopefully) looking pretty, this website is also the top result if you Google “andrew steele” and second if you Google “statto”.
Other websites
I’ve also designed a number of other websites, for clients and for my own entertainment. Here is a selection:
- Elizabeth Tidy, commissioning fine artist (elizabethtidy.co.uk), including a gallery of her work for potential clients
- Rosalind West’s personal website (rosalindwest.co.uk), opera singer and physicist in Oxford.
- Accelerate! website (www.physics.ox.ac.uk/accelerate), for the Accelerate! Oxford particle physics outreach show.
- M&M Alloys (www.mandmalloys.com), an international metal products factoring company, needed a website to act as an easily-updated, internationally-distributable brochure
- The Statto–JTA Publishing Corporation (www.ktab.co.uk), a repository of silly things I’ve written with my friend JTA.
- KTAB News (news.ktab.co.uk), a topical satire website. The site design is a parody of BBC News Online, though I like to think that it surpasses the original…
- S Official Website (party.kwazoig.com), which my sister and I use to organise our annual party.
